Welcome to 8th Grade Drama
Description: This class will introduce 8th grade students to the exciting world of Drama. Throughout the year long course, students will have the opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge based in Theatre Etiquette, Improvisation, Musical Theatre, Monologue Creation, Scene Study, and Theatre for Change, while reflecting on their work through self-reflective writing and conversation.
Content: There are multiple facets to the Drama curriculum and all are interconnected and build upon each other. They are the following:
1. Intro to Drama
2. Improvisation
3. Musical Theatre
4. Monologue Writing and Performance
5. Scene Work
6. Theatre for Social Change
Instruction: Instruction is facilitated through several different means and all students are expected to participate fully in each aspect. They are the following:
1. Instructor Lecture
2. Instructor Handouts
3. Individual classwork
4. Classroom warm-ups, explorations, and exercises
5. Ensemble classroom work and performances
Assessment: Assessment is based on the following:
1. Written reflections and self-analysis
2. Unit performances based on rubrics
3. Participation in daily classes as well as individual and group presentations
Grading:
Since all elements are equally important, all aspects are weighted equally. The
categories are the following:
1. Attendance/Participation
2. Performances and Projects
3. Journal writing
