I love the theatre and I take it very seriously. I hope that I will pass that love of theatre on to my students. Due to the uncommon nature and structure of this class it is important that we have an understanding of what is expected. Here are a few dos and don’ts to ensure success.
Do
1. Do come to class on time and ready to work – this means in the door and in a circle
2. Do participate fully – this means attempting to accomplish all tasks that are being taught
3. Do expect the format of the class to change on a daily basis – this means that there might be some times when you are sitting on the floor stretching, some of the time you are in chair taking notes and some times that you are performing on stage
4. Do bring a pen, pencil and paper to class everyday
5. Do arrange to meet me after school if you need extra help
6. Do contact me through e-mail – [email protected]
7. Do take risks – this means allow yourself to try something out of your comfort zone in order to grow as a performer and as a person
8. Do trust me and your classmates – this means that even if you feel uncertain about something trust that I am here to guide you and your classmates will be here too
9. Do expect this to be your favorite and most personally challenging class
Don’t
1. Don’t ever say “NO” or “I DON’T KNOW” – this means challenge yourself to be creative
2. Don’t bring a negative attitude – this means that once you have committed to being in this class commit to being
in this class
3. Don’t wear a hat – Shakespeare said “The eyes are the mirror to the soul” so I need to see your eyes – THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE
4. Don’t ever bring food, gum or drinks (except water) into this classroom – THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE
5. Don’t be judgmental of yourself or others ever – this means that we will not tolerate any disrespect, inappropriate behavior, inappropriate or distasteful language, or hurtful speech directed at yourself or others
These are rules we all need to abide by if this class is to be a success
